City Market was originally built in the 1700s. It is now a four-block area where old warehouses have been converted into shops, art galleries, and delicious restaurants. It’s the perfect place to stroll through and take in the sights and sounds of Savannah. There is also a conveniently shaded courtyard for you to relax and enjoy a cool beverage.

If your looking for some good old-fashioned southern cuisine then try the famous Lady and Sons located at 102 Congress Street. At the Lady and Sons, you can order from the menu or have your meal served family-style. If your looking for some yummy pizza then try Vinnie Van Go Go’s Pizza and for steak or seafood, you’ll want to visit Belford’s.

If you’re a lover of American history then you will enjoy the American Prohibition Museum. It is located in City Market is 6,000 square feet and includes thirteen different galleries, a speakeasy, and four vintage cars. While at American Prohibition Museum you will learn about the Temperance Movement, moonshine, the Flapper craze, and organized crime. The museum is located at 209 W. Saint Julian Street in City Market and they are open 364 days a year. Saint Patrick’s Day is the only day that they are closed.
Time for dessert
When you’re ready for a sweet treat head into Savannah’s Candy Kitchen. Here you are greeted by the wonderful aroma of homemade candy. Most of the candy at Savanah’s Candy Kitchen is made right on the premises. It’s fun to watch these yummy confections being made. Pecan pralines are a customer favorite and the friendly staff will gladly give you a free sample. Another great place for a sweet treat at City Market in Savannah is Byrd’s Famous Cookies. Byrd’s Famous Cookie Company was founded in Savannah in 1924. They are proud is be a family business that is now in its fifth generation of leadership. Byrd’s produces more than one billion cookies per year. Today they have sixteen flavors of cookies with more being produced each year. When I was a child growing up in the Savannah area we were given Byrds’s oatmeal cookies each day for our kindergarten snack. What sweet memories. Today, the key lime coolers are one of Byrd’s most popular flavors. Stop by for yourself and pick up a sample. All sixteen flavors are available for free samples.

City Market is dog-friendly. Bring your pooch by Woof Gang Bakery and pick up a new dog toy or a treat. The dog treats at Woof Gang Bakery look good enough to eat. Many of the restaurants at City Market have outdoor seating and you are welcome to bring your dog with you as long as you are dining outside on the patio. * Please note that you cannot take your dog to the American Prohibition Museum.
Enjoy a Trolley
While at City Market you can also catch a trolley tour and grab a carriage ride. Many of the riding tours have pick-up spots in City Market, but you would need to sign up in advance. City Market in Savannah is a quaint area and a fun spot to enjoy while you are visiting historic Savannah.
